Gratitude to Harper Steele and Will Ferrell

What’s Helping Today: Will & Harper on Netflix, the new documentary about Will Ferrell and his friendship with longtime collaborator Harper Steele. I’ve watched it twice now and cried both times. It’s a beautiful effort, and one that I assume will change many lives for the better.

The movie captures the awkwardness and courage of sometimes merely existing as a trans person, as well as what cis allyship can and should look like. I’m a lifelong lover of comedy and SNL specifically and of course Will Ferrell, and therefore have felt such joy that this project exists. Also my beloved Iowa City features in such a perfect way.

Hope you’ll watch it, if you haven’t already. The song will be stuck in your head forever; at least that seems to be the case for me. (Not complaining.)
