Hi folks,
A short newsletter β and maybe Iβll send these shorter ones more often β but I wanted to give a belated artichoke update.
In brief: I harvested some chokes, ate them fried, and they were utterly delicious.
Iβve also given away several artichokes to friends who are into cooking, what a delight. Here was the recipe I used. Here is a helpful artichoke primer.
Whatβs Helping Today: Our beloved, iconic peach tree Belvis is having her most productive year to date.
ICYMI, Belvis and her showdown with a bear were once made famous on Radiolab. Nowadays, Belvis has a robust, tall fence and some younger peach, apricot and sour cherry neighbors. This season for the first time the second peach tree also has a bunch of fruit! Send me your favorite peach recipes please?? Or other go-to late-summer recipes?
A favorite around here is giambotta, which a friend told me about a few years ago. In my interpretation, this is many late-summer vegetables and sausage cooked until they lose all sense of themselves, then eaten with bread. Or frozen until winter to preserve memory of summer. Itβs heavenly. And it uses up lots of potatoes and zucchini and green beans and tomatoes and corn and such, hell yeah. I had a pot of it burbling on the stove all day yesterday.
Speaking of using-up-zucchini, this Smitten Kitchen summer squash pizza was absurdly good.
Iβll hopefully be back with more shortly. I also have a few big pieces coming out soon, ones Iβm very excited share!
